Madam Justina Owusu Banahene, the Bono regional Minister has urged parents and guardians to provide their children and wards with basic educational needs, as they enter Senior High Schools (SHSs).
She said the implementation of the government flagship Free SHS (FSHS) was not a justification or excuse for parents to shirk their responsibility in providing basic necessities and educational needs of their children.
Instead, the regional Minister explained the FSHS programme was a scholarship package for the students hence the need for parents and guardians to complement the government efforts and provide their children and wards with basic needs that would sustain their interest in school.
Mad Owusu Banahene gave the advice at a get together dinner organized by the Sunyani stakeholders Development Association in honour of her in Sunyani.
That notwithstanding, Mad Owusu Banahene said the FSHS programmes had achieved significant impact, creating enough room for every Ghanaian child to easily access secondary education.
Mr Micheal Asare Yeboah, the Chief Executive Officer of McKenzie Ghana, a sportswear manufacturing company and President of the Association, said the association was not a pressure group rather a development oriented group that sought the development of the Sunyani Municipality.
He said with support from it's development partners outside the association had presented medical devices and equipment to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital and the Sunyani regional hospital.
Mr Yeboah said the association recognized and acknowledged the hard work, dedication to duty and selflessness of the regional Minister towards the development of the region and pledged the association's support to her administration.
