The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has finally set November 4, 2023, as the date for its presidential primaries to elect a flagbearer to lead the party to possibly “break the eight” for the general elections in 2024.
The general secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong made this known in a statement released on Monday, April 3, 2023.
According to the statement, nominations for the Presidential aspirants would be opened on May 26, 2023, a few days after the National Democratic Congress holds its primaries.
It also indicated that parliamentary primaries will be held in February 2024 for constituencies with sitting MPs while orphan constituencies will be held from August 1 to December 2, 2023.
However, the statement made it clear that there will be a Special Electoral College Elections on August 26, 2023, if any.
This means that they will be looking for a considerable number of candidates to run for the presidential primaries.
Some notable names aspiring to lead the party in 2024 are Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Alan Kyeremanten, Dr Afriyie Akoto, Vice President, Dr Bawumia
The statement further added that “the National Council has barred National, Regional, Constituency Party Executives and MMDCEs from contesting in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament.
“The party has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of both the presidential and parliamentary primaries which would be made available to the public in due course”.
