Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has informed the Majority Caucus of Parliament of his desire to run in the NPP Presidential Primaries in November.
The Former Minister of Food and Agriculture discussed his vision with the members of the Majority Caucus at a meeting on Tuesday, June 13.
According to him, when he becomes the Flagbearer and subsequently the President his vision is largely hinged on Agriculture as the driving force to develop the other sectors of the economy of Ghana.
He told the Caucus about his vision to establish an Agricultural Management Team which would be headed by the President.
Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto stated that the Agricultural Management Team will be in charge of prioritizing the allocation of public funds into key sectors of the economy in order to maximize benefits that Ghanaians desire.

This afternoon I interacted with our Majority caucus in Parliament. I shared with this group which I was previously part of, my vision for the party and Ghana in general when I become the Flagbearer and subsequently the President.
I told them my vision is largely hinged on Agriculture as the driving force to develop the other sectors of the economy. I also told them about my vision to establish an Agricultural Management Team to be headed by the President.
This Team holds the key to prioritizing the allocation of public funds into key sectors of the economy to yield the maximum benefits that Ghanaians are craving.
My message was well received by the caucus who in turn assured me of their fullest support and wished me well.
I was accompanied by my Campaign Manager and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NPP, Alfred Boye, Co-Campaign Chairman and a former Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP, KEN-WUUD Nuworso, Campaign Coordinator, Peter Oteng Darko, and Campaign spokesperson, Dr. Prince Sodoke Amuzu.
I am grateful to the Leadership of the Majority Caucus led by the Majority Leader, Hon. Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu, his deputy, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, the Majority Chief Whip, Hon. NPP Presidential Election
On November 4, 2023, the NPP will elect a Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections. Already, nine candidates have stated their ambition to lead the party.
The nomination period for the NPP presidential primaries will begin on 26th May and end on 24th June 2023.
The party has also announced that parliamentary primaries will be held in February 2024.
Nominations will be accepted between 20th December 2023 and 4th January 2024.
This means NPP will choose its flagbearer before its parliamentary candidates.
