Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia filed his nomination today, June 16, 2023, to contest the flagbearer position to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia received support from some prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as he arrived at the party headquarters in Accra.
Sports Minister, Mustapha Yusif, former MP for Tema East, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Greater Accra Regional Minister among others accompanied the Vice President.
Dr. Bawumia becomes the second aspirant out of eleven candidates who picked forms to file and submit.
The vice President is considered favourite to win the primaries as indicated in recent polls conducted by InfoAnalytics, CitiTV and University of Ghana.
Picking and filing process is expected to close on Saturday, June 24, followed by a vetting process starting Monday, July 3.
The NPP has also scheduled Saturday, August 26, for a Special Electoral College if more than five candidates qualify for the primaries and the National congress scheduled for November 4, 2023.
Former Agric Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie is also expected to file his nomination on Monday, June 19, 2023.
