Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia has on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 commissioned a transformative Premix Automation Fuel Dispensary and Monitoring System at Elmina in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Constituency in the Central Region, designed to redefine the landscape of Ghana’s fishing industry.
The groundbreaking initiative seizes to eliminate the corruption, diversion and other bottlenecks associated with the supply and distribution of premix fuel, ushering in an era of efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
The Automated Premix Fuel initiative comes with a cutting-edge technology, dispensing control units, fuel level sensors, card utilization systems for authorization and access as well as a web and mobile applications for monitoring and generating reports.
This comprehensive infrastructure ensures efficient tracking, transparent transactions, and accurate data collection, providing a strong foundation for the optimization of premix fuel distribution.
Vice President Bawumia speaking at the commissioning, expressed that premix fuel distribution has over the years bedeviled successive governments in the country over its protocol dealings and subsequent takeover by politicians, resulting to shortages, black market activities and fuel diversions which turn to affect fisherfolks which the initiated Automated Premix Fuel targets to erupt from the system.
According to officials of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Ministry, 31 Landing Beaches have so far been fitted with the premix pumps, with work ongoing on others, as all outlets per the Ministry, will have a remote access on authorized web devices to allow stakeholders view in all real-time transactions at each landing beach to eliminate the age-long issue of hoarding.
The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson recounted that her sector when sustainably managed, poses the potential to contribute significantly to the socio-economic progress of the country through its exportation of tuna and canned fish as the sector presently provides over ¢254 million to Ghana's economy.
On the maintenance culture of the project, Paramount Chief of the Edina Traditional Area, Nana Kodwo Kondua IX issued a firm warning to his subjects, particularly parents to advise their wards, else whoever he catches stealing even gravels from the place will warrant his unpardonable punishment.
