Former President John Dramani Mahama has charged leaders of Guan communities to establish Guan Secretariat in order to foster development in their various societies.
According to Mr. Mahama, most of the Guan communities are considered to be very poor which needs immediate attention and redress to change the status of the people.
He has assured of his massive support to make sure the Secretariat is established and seek the well-being of Guans.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic congress (NDC) made this pronouncement during the 8th annual Congress and 40th anniversary of Guan Congress today at Winneba.
On his side, the president of Guan Congress, Enyineh Gyadu Nkansa III has explained the need to unite as one people and fight for a common goal. Delivering his keynote address said Guan speaking tribes is in 14 regions out of 16 regions in Ghana who are the first settlers in Ghana from Mali Empire. Some of these tribes are Gonja, Kete- Krachi, Awutu, Effutu, Senya, Anum Bosso, Likpe, Nchumuru and others.
Meanwhile, Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere constituency who doubles as minister for Local government Mr. Dan Kwaku Botchway who represented the president, his Excellency Nana Akuffo Addo encouraged commended the authorities of the Guans for the initiative a situation he described as Right direction. He used the opportunity to advise the Guans to be united and fight for what belongs to the Guans.
