Minister for Works and Housing and the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon. Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah has paid a working visit to inspect ongoing sea defence project sites in the Central Region.
The astute Ghanaian Lawyer and Politician endeavoured to embark on this visit to see for himself the actual levels of completion of the project at places been construction in the region.
Hon. Oppong Nkrumah following his sea defence tour across the country's coastal lines where such project is been executed, visited places in the Central Region like Anomaba, Cape Coast, Elmina and Komenda.
The Minister during his working tour to the Central Region was accompanied by the Chief Director for the Works and Housing Ministry, Rev. Stephen Yaw Osei, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Hydrological Authority, Dr. John Kisi together with an entourage of key officials from the Ministry.
Vuluxx Construction Company Limited who in Cape Coast have been assigned for the construction of a five-kilometre sea defence project with two breakwater sites, intended to allow fishermen have a safe dock of their canoes, noted to have 80% of the project completed.
At Komenda, Amandi Construction Company has equally been committed to the construction of the area's five-kilometre sea defence project which is about 85% complete. Whereas, that of Anomabo and the Elmina sea defences are 85% and 95% complete respectively.
The Oguaamanhene, Osabarimba Kwesi Atta ll having had the Works and Housing Minister pay him a visit at his Emintzimadze Palace, commended the government for its sea defence project but pleaded on Hon. Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah to see to it that the remaining 20% work completion of the Cape Coast sea defence is extended to Ekon where residents have for years been battling tidal waves.
Hon. Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah after the tour, commended contractors at various sea defence sites in the Central Region as well as consultants to the project for a wonderful work done, as he recounted various sea defence projects he toured in the region to be over 80% complete.
He gave an assurance to ensure the completion of the 20% left to complete the entire project in the region in the next couple of months.
The Minister pleaded on chiefs to help his Ministry bring to book perpetrators of sand-wining at sea defence sites, having had the full corporation of the Ghana Police Service to assist put a perpetual halt to the act which turns to affect the project.
