The Minister Designate at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Hon. Andrew Egyapa Mercer has said that the leadership of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), should be very intentional and pragmatic in approaching the things they want to accomplish.
He made these remarks when the leadership of MUSIGA called on him on Tuesday 16th April 2024 at the ministry
MUSIGA was founded in December 1975 with the primary objective of uniting musicians under a single organisation to safeguard their rights, advance their interests, and advance the Ghanaian music business. Since the group's official recognition by the Ghana government, it has been crucial in assisting musicians and has helped to develop the music industry.
While updating Hon. Mercer on the achievements of the union, the leadership shared certain pertinent areas they faced challenges in. Key among them were the concerns for office space following their relocation due to the marine drive project, vehicles for their regional offices, and support for the MUSIGA Grand Ball, to mention a few.
Hon. Mercer shared his optimism with the delegation but suggested to them to think through how their union’s architecture could be restructured to aid proper functioning.
He tasked the union to revert to his outfit with a more comprehensive proposal that reflects the best interests of the music industry and Ghanaians as a whole.
