The Bono regional communicators of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have declared indefinite strike over the decision by the Coordinating Council to auction some excavators.
Last week, some excavators belonging to the Bono Regional Coordinating Council were auctioned, generating debate in the region among communicators, the media space and the various stakeholders.
Speaking at the news conference in Sunyani on Sunday, Abubakari Yakubu, the Sunyani East communication director of the NPP said, “In 2017, drama characterized the retrieval of several trucks including graders, tipper trucks, front loaders, Road rollers etc. by the first regional Minister under this regime, and the Regional Chairman then and now, Mr. Kwame Baffoe Abronye which culminated into a deep sense of love by the people for the Party in the region because the Party couldn’t stand the rip-off that was pursued by the erstwhile NDC administration, to the proceeds of the trucks.”
“This stemmed from the fact that, the Bono Regional Organizer of the Opposition National Democratic Congress then, Mr. Mohamed Seidu a.k.a Maha Seidu had authority over the trucks against law and the proceeds of which were used to finance activities of their Party between 2014 and 2016 for which he was convicted by the Sunyani Circuit court presided over by his Honour Alexander Graham after he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of 150 penalty units which he obliged in June 2019 as attached”, he explained.
This move in 2019, according to Mr Yakubu, earned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) so much Respect before and after the retrieval of the trucks. Soon after this, the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) started renting the trucks out and was generating good income for the RCC.
“It was working so well that the various Municipal and District Assemblies within the region were benefiting as well as individuals within the Region. However, in a rather bizarre manner, these trucks were grounded and left under the mercy of the weather.”
Mr Abubakari Yakubu, also called Baaba Amando revealed the communicators are demanding answers to Who authorized the auction of the trucks and Why, why did the Authorities park the trucks when the Assemblies needed them for reshaping and other activities, why did the Regional Minister who is head of the RCC allow the auction knowing the feud and history around these trucks?
The communicators are also demanding answers to the following questions:
- Why should these auctions be done especially now that our flagbearer is talking about transparency and protection of national assets?
- I s this not a sabotage by the Regional Coordinating Council led by the Regional Minister against the Flagbearer and his Parliamentary candidates in the Region since it is an established fact that it would become a tool to be used by the Opposition against our fortune as a party going into the general elections.[
- How many trucks, kind and how much did each cost when it was purchased as brand new and how much was each auctioned at?
- Who are those the trucks were auctioned to?
- Is the New Patriotic Party in the Region aware of this development?
- Was it the Chief of Staff, Akousua Frema OPARE and her Deputy, Mr. Bossman Adumoah who ordered the auction as the Regional Minister, Mrs. Justina Owusu Banahene has been alleging?
- Was the auction advertised in accordance with the auction sales act 1989?
He said, until answers to the above questions are provided, they would not resume communicating for the party until further notice.
“In view of the subject in question, we have declared an indefinite strike effective immediately as communicators in the Region until the Questions are adequately answered and the trucks are retrieved and kept for the Assemblies to use”, Baaba Amando stressed.
