Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education has stated that the Akuffo Addo led government is committed to ensuring Junior High Schools in the country are given a facelift.
Hon Dr Osei Adutwum explained there was the need to take critical look at the Junior High Schools because over the years it has been the weakest link in the education system of the country.
The Minister was speaking in an interview with Sompa 98.9FM in Sunyani on Wednesday May 29 when he visited one of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) schools located at the Ridge Experimental Cluster of Schools in Sunyani, the Bono regional capital.
He noted, the government, through the Ministry of Education, has invested heavily in the development of high-quality STEM institutions and programs.
Dr Adutwum who was satisfied with the progress of work indicated that the facility, almost completed is expected to be commission and made available for use in the next academic year which begins in September 2024.
"The visit is to ensure that the building meets all our specifications and is ready to be opened, so I came to take a look at what we need to do to make sure that by August-September which is the next academic year, the school would be ready for use", he stressed.
"The new model school system will bring the JHS students in the area together to access biology, chemistry and physics laboratory, a STEM laboratory and a computer laboratory", he explained.
The Education Minister disclosed that the contractor is expected to undertake petty finishing works to make it ready for use.
He admonished the school authorities and the students to endeavor to cultivate maintenance culture to make the facility long lasting for use.
The Bosomtwe legislature took advantage of the inspection to interact with the students and teachers of the school and engaged JHS two students by teaching them Algebra, a topic in Mathematics.
