The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has called on the Ghana Police Service to turn its eye to protect members of the party prior to the country's general election slated for December 7 this year.
According to the party, should the police service fail on its duty to guarantee members of the NDC the needed protection they will require in the upcoming general election, will force party members to protect themselves.
The NDC relayed this in a press conference held on Sunday at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East Constituency following the party's consistent complain of arrest and molestation to its members, particularly in the Central Region, coupled to the recent release of Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Awutu Senya East from police cell over her possession of a firearm.
Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, the Central Regional NDC Chairman addressing the media at the presser, noted Hon. Mavis Hawa Koomson, MP for Awutu Senya East to have shot herself on the foot upon accusation to be behind the unlawful detention of Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor at the police cell over her fears of losing to the NDC PC come December 7.
On police protection to members of the NDC, Prof. Asiedu described the NDC to be a law abiding party, but will never sit aloof for their right to be trampled upon over lack of police protection, having had the party born out of a military regime.
