The incumbent MP for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has declared her intention to contest the 2024 parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
The MP lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary held on Saturday, April 13.
She garnered 152, while Christopher Arthur polled 240 to become the parliamentary candidate.
In the latest update, the MP has announced to her constituents that she will be running as an independent.
She sud if God willing, I would be contesting the parliamentary election as an independent candidate… It is not about the NDC, and it is not about the NPP. It is about the development of Agona. I don’t care whether you vote for former President John Dramani Mahama or Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
But the most important thing is for you to vote massively for Cynthia Morrison so I can come and complete the work I started.
Cynthia Morrison won the seat during the 2016 parliamentary election.
Two other candidates ran in the 2016 by-election for the Agona West constituency: Charles Obeng-Inkoom of the National Democratic Congress and Evans Idan Coffie of the Convention People’s Party.
Cynthia won the election by obtaining 32,770 votes out of the 56,878 votes cast, representing 58.03 percent of the total valid votes.
She contested the 2020 general election as the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party.
She won by polling 30,513 out of a total of 59,193 valid votes cast as against Paul Ofori-Amoah of the opposition National Democratic Congress, who had 27,673 votes, and independent candidate Ishmael Kofi Tekyi Turkson, who had 1,007 votes.
