A report by Sompa FM on the dilapidated condition of the Ankrana River Bridge, at Abesim near Sunyani, has received public assistance and thereby empowering the community to rehabilitate the footbridge.
Hitherto, school children and women in particular, who crossed the Akrana River everyday exposed their precious lives to danger due to the bad shape of the footbridge.
However, a report caried by the FM station for public support for the rehabilitation of the bridge yielded a positive response.
During a visit, our correspondent noticed that the Ankrana community members, led by Mr Kingsley Kusi Appiah, the Assembly Member for the Abesim Akobea Electoral Area, undertook major repair works on the footbridge.
They replaced old with new lumbers to make the bridge friendly and usable to children and women, as the rains settled in the area.
In an interview, Mr Appiah commended Dr Kwasi Nyame-Baafi, a native of Abesim and some few others for coming to the aid of the community to fix the bridge.
He said Dr Nyame-Baafi, also a development economist, policy analyst and a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) took almost all the cost for the repair works.
