Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson has underscored that job creation remains the central focus of government’s economic strategy, affirming that every policy in the 2026 Budget has been evaluated for its potential impact on employment.
Speaking in an interview on JoyNews’ PM Express following the presentation of the budget, Dr. Forson explained that the government is determined to ensure that new policies translate into sustainable livelihoods for Ghanaians.
“Every single policy I put in, I look at its impact on jobs,” he said, stressing that economic measures must ultimately support growth in employment.
He suggested that while stabilising the economy remains essential, growth will only be meaningful if it leads to more opportunities for citizens, particularly young people seeking to enter the job market.
According to him, Ghana cannot afford policies that “look good on paper” but fail to deliver tangible benefits in communities.
The Finance Minister noted that government is shifting its economic focus toward practical initiatives that encourage productivity and create work across sectors.
He highlighted that decisions around spending, taxation, and investment are now being assessed not only for their fiscal outcomes but also their ability to stimulate job creation in both the public and private sectors.
Dr. Forson added that improving job prospects is vital to reducing hardship and boosting national confidence, as households depend on consistent income to recover from recent economic challenges.
He reaffirmed that the success of the 2026 Budget will be judged by how well it addresses unemployment and supports expansion in businesses that employ Ghanaians.
