Mr Festus Onoma Kwansah, the Bono regional director of the Ghana Revenue Authority ( GRA) has stated that only 30percent of Ghanaians are tax payers.
He said the remaining 70 percent none tax payers are mostly artisans.
Mr Onomah Kansas disclosed this when the GRA branch in Sunyani engaged stakeholders for the modified taxation (MTS) scheme on Tuesday November 25.
The Modified taxation scheme ( MTS) is designated to help businesses operating in the informal sector register with GRA, file tax returns, and pay the right taxes in an easy and convenient way.
He noted that, the authority has taken three(3) years to sensitized the business community and the general public to help them know the important of paying tax.
The Bono regional director said, the authority will continue to engage with the building owners and the municipal assemblies on how they can collect taxes and raise revenue.
He added that, the authority will continue to engage the municipal assemblies on the strategies needed to raise revenue and boost tax collection in the region.
