Ghanaian highlife musician, Bisa Kdei has pleaded on Ghanaian DJs to play more traditional highlife songs rather than foreign tunes.
He alluded to the necessity for DJs in the country to consciously prioritize promoting Ghanaian music, particularly during the Year of Return celebration.
“It’s about time we promote our highlife songs, more especially during events. Our music promoters are doing well, but much effort needs to be added."
"I do get calls from most visitors expressing their desire to hear Ghanaian highlife songs being played, but often hear of foreign ones which unfortunately is what they return to their countries with,” he hollered for change.
Bisa Kdei relayed this in an exclusive interview with Ahomka FM's Dj Qwequ.
The highlife artiste admonished that should DJs in the country abide by this, it will enable the outside world get to hear and become more familiar with the Ghanaian music than with songs from other countries.
He again suggested for a system to be instituted to ensure that Ghanaian music is played more often on radio stations, pubs, and other entertainment platforms.
“I am of the view that a system should be created where at least 70% of Ghanaian highlife songs will be played during such occasions where foreigners are heavily hosted into the country, because what they hear here mostly sticks into their heads,” he advocated.
