The 2025 Ghana’s Most Beautiful (GMB) contestant representing the Bono Region, Angela Mensah, known on stage as Yeli, has urged residents across the former Brong Ahafo enclave to unite and provide stronger support for future contestants to help bring the coveted crown home.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM-Sunyani, Yeli reflected on the long-standing challenge the region has faced in the beauty pageant, noting that despite the talent and potential of past representatives, the crown has remained out of reach.
“Since GMB started, we have not had a winner in the Brong Ahafo Region — even before the region was divided. Up until now, we still haven’t won,” she said.
According to her, contestants from Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo consistently display exceptional performance, but often fall short in the competition due to inadequate votes, which play a decisive role in determining who advances to the final stages.
She further opened up about her own struggles during her time in the competition, revealing that fundraising was her most difficult obstacle.
“Personally, the difficult thing I experienced when I represented the Bono Region was the fundraising. Even though we had some people to support, it was not enough.”
Yeli emphasized that without strong financial backing, contestants are unable to generate the needed votes or execute impactful projects and presentations that could boost their standing in the competition.
To address this, she proposed a collaborative approach among the regions that once made up Brong Ahafo.
“I suggest all the regions should come together and raise funds to support and push whoever represents the region in a particular year. Our contestants perform well, but we fail to bring the crown home because the support isn’t enough.”
Her call comes as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated GMB season, where regional pride and cultural representation continue to be at the forefront of the competition.
