The Chief of Tafo Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region, Nana Agyen-Frimpong Ababio, has refused the burial of one of his royal, Joel Acheampong alias Kwadwo Broni, 43, at the Tafo royal cemetery today14th April 2022 in Kumasi. For over two decades, Tafo has suffered Chieftaincy disputes, which followed the banning of the burial of royals at the Tafo royal cemetery.
In response to the issue, Nana Agyen Frimpong debunked the assertion stating, notwithstanding the fact that Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu the 2nd settlement of the dispute in favor of his family, some rituals needed to be performed before any burial would take place at the royal cemetery.
Meanwhile, the Agona royals who have laid the deceased in the state indicated, that per culture and traditions, they must bury the deceased to avoid any future occurrences.
The aggrieved family members explained that there are over eighteen corpses in the morgue pending burial but due to the dispute, they are unable to bury them.
Nana Kwabena Agyekum, the Abusuapanin of the royal Agona family in an interview with Sompaonline repoter, Benjamin Kusi said, it was an abomination to return the already laid in state body back to the morgue and he is worried over the entrenched position of the Chief.
According to him, series of meetings held with Tafohene over the burial of their royal but no positive outcome has been agreed upon.
