The Central Regional Director of Education, Dr. Juliette Dufie Otami, has urged that education goes beyond academic performance to embrace the moral, social, emotional and physical development of the learner.
She said a truly effective school system nurtures well-rounded individuals who are equipped not only with knowledge and skills but also with Values.
She added that discipline must be recognised as a cornerstone of holistic Education. She added that no matter how well-resourced a school may be, without discipline, effective teaching and learning cannot take place.
The Regional Education Director made this expression at Breman Asikuma Senior High School (BASS) in the Central Region, during the school's 61st Anniversary speech and Prize Giving Day, themed: "Promoting Holistic Education through Effective school System."
She emphasized that discipline cultivates respect for authority, responsibility, self-control and perseverance virtues that are essential for personal success and national development, she added.
The District Director of Education for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Mr. Seth Emmanuel Panwum also added that the theme for the programme is in the vision for the educational transformation for the Regional Director.
Again, your dedication and commitment to nurturing and raising individuals who are well-rounded socially, academically and morally deserve commendations.
He also encourage the students to strive harder for academic excellence by embracing the opportunities offered to them by teachers in order to develop the necessary skills that will shape their lives against the future.
Headmistress of Breman Asikuma Senior High Mrs.Kukua Andoh Robertson said they are facing certain challenges that hinder their full potential.
Inadequate infrastructure continues to hinder the smooth running of the school and its transition to the single- track system.
She added that they need urgent additional dormitory facilities to accommodate boarding students to reduce congestion, additional classroom block, an assembly hall that can accommodate all students at a time, a modern E-library that can support research and ICT resources for learning, staff accommodation for staff supervision and monitoring of students in the evening and during weekends and a school bus for the school.
