The Deputy CEO for the Mental Health Authority-Ghana, Dr. Vivian Maame Aba Dadzie, has emphasized that mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of one's background, status or circumstances.
This perspective highlights the importance of promoting mental health awareness and support systems.
"We all have abnormalities with regards to mental health which includes anger and not pertaining to madness alone, only that it needs to be triggered."
She said this in an exclusive interview with Sompa TV's Eric Annan at the 22nd matriculation and 13th graduation ceremony of the Ankaful Psychiatric Nurses' Training College in the Central Region.
She further addressed her joy for the Ankaful Psychiatric Nurses' Training College for prioritizing the mental health profession by instilling that urge in its students.
Dr. Aba Dadzie advised that both health professionals and the public must value their mental health as it should, since anyone can be mentally challenged.
Meanwhile, findings has it that about 13% of Ghanaians are affected by some form of mental disorder, with only about 2% receiving adequate care and treatment. This gap underscores the need for increased awareness and support.
The Deputy CEO for Mental Health Authority observed that "stigma and cultural misconceptions surrounding mental illness often prevent individuals from seeking help."
"The country needs to address the challenges which requires a collective effort to educate and raise enough awareness about mental health," she advocated.
