Some utility service users in Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital have kicked against the sharp increment in utility services, urging the government to rescind the decision.
The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) announced 9.86 percent increment in electricity, and 15.92 hike in water tariffs, effective January 1, 2026.
In a public reaction, the customers noted that the increment would worsen the socio-economic conditions of the ordinary Ghanaian.
Madam Linda Asare, a resident noted that whenever electricity tariffs went up, it corresponded to high cost of goods, and services and food items.
She noted that many producers and manufacturers largely relied on power for production and storage, saying an increment in electricity tariffs forced them to upwardly adjust their prices too.
For Mr Benjamin Ohene Darko, another resident, the increase in water and electricity tariffs remained a huge public concern, worrying that the enforcement of the increment would bring additional financial burdens to many households and businesses.
According to him, upward adjustment in utility tariffs would bring undue pressures on users who mostly relied on electricity to run their daily operations, ultimately increasing worsening their financial burdens.
