The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested 54 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at clamping down on illegal drug activity and other criminal hideouts across the region.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, the swoops targeted suspected drug peddlers and users as well as locations linked to robbery and related crimes.
The coordinated operations were carried out in parts of Abesim, Banda, Nkrankwanta, Odumase, Dumasua, Wenchi and Dormaa.
Police said the exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to rid communities of drug-related crimes and dismantle criminal networks operating within the region.
The arrests were conducted by the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) with support from other police personnel.
Items retrieved from the suspects during the operations include quantities of tramadol, six pairs of scissors, a green tricycle locally known as a “pragya,” dried leaves and seeds suspected to be Indian hemp, a small crusher, two boxes of matches and a box of cigarettes. The exhibits have been retained for evidential purposes.
The suspects, whose ages range from the late teens to mid-40s, have been arraigned before court and remanded into police custody to allow for further investigations.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public of its preparedness to ensure a crime-free festive season and warned that individuals who engage in criminal activities will be arrested and made to face the full rigours of the law.
The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police Command.
