Seven (7) persons are reported dead with 18 others sustaining various forms of injury in a fatal car accident which occured at Komenda Asamasa in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) in the Central Region.
According to the Regional Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) command, it responded to the fatal road traffic accident along the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway involving a Sprinter Bus with registration number GS 6705-21, travelling from Komenda towards Takoradi, and a Man Diesel Truck with number GS 8394 Y travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast at 7:25pm on Monday, January 12, 2026.
The Central Regional PRO for the GNFS, DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, however narrated that the GNFS rescuers arrived promptly and freed six (6) victims who were trapped from the Sprinter bus, which had veered into a nearby bush.
He noted that all six (6) were pronounced dead on arrival at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, while another casualty (female) who had earlier been taken to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital was also pronounced dead, bringing the total fatalities to seven (7).
A report by Sompa TV's Eric Annan indicates that the six (6) deceased extricated by the GNFS, comprised three (3) females including a pregnant woman, one (1) baby, and three (3) males.

Meanwhile, the eighteen (18) people who sustained varying degrees of injuries who were rescued before the arrival of the GNFS rescue team, are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
According to eyewitness accounts, the Man Diesel truck travelling from Takoradi towards Cape Coast lost control while overtaking another vehicle and collided head-on with the Sprinter bus travelling in the opposite direction.
