James Clarke Hayford, an Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations Office and Registrar in charge of the Dean of Students Office, has cautioned prospective students and parents to use official university channels when seeking accommodation, following reports of fraud involving fake hostel agents.
According to him, the university no longer ties accommodation to admission but provides guidance to students who are unable to secure on-campus housing.
Speaking in an interview with Ama Konadu on ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show at Sompa FM-Sunyani, Mr. Hayford said, “what we do is that we give everyone opportunity to apply but if you don’t get it, we still tell you that for anything about accommodation or hostel, make sure to call the numbers on the admission letter.”
Mr. Hayford also noted that some individuals, including non-students, have used social media to collect money from unsuspecting applicants without providing accommodation. He urged parents and students to avoid dealing with unknown persons.
“So we’re always advising parents and students that they should always deal with the individuals known to be staff members in the school,” he added.
The university says it remains committed to student welfare and will continue to provide verified accommodation information through official contacts.
