The Mayor of Cape Coast has made a passionate appeal to churches, traditional authorities, residents and public institutions to partner with the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly in the fight against filth, sanitation challenges and environmental degradation in the metropolis.
According to the Mayor, sanitation remains one of the biggest threats to public health, tourism and the overall image of Cape Coast, stressing that the Assembly alone cannot win the battle without the collective effort of all stakeholders.
He made this emphasizes upon receiving the donation of 50 dustbins from Prophet Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey, General Overseer of the Moulders Chapel International and Dean of all Development, Sanitation, and Tourism Ambassador of CCMA which was donated on his behalf by Pastor Emmanuel Hammond.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor noted that “If we want Cape Coast to be a safe haven for residents, tourists and investors, then sanitation must be everybody’s responsibility. The Assembly cannot do it alone,” the Mayor stated. “Churches, indigenes, schools, market women, transport operators and institutions must all join hands with us.”
He further extended his outmost appreciation to Prophet Emmanuel Abeiku Aggrey for redeeming his promise made to the assembly upon assuming his new role as Dean of the Cape Coast Development, Tourism and Sanitation Ambassadors.
Receiving the donation, the Mayor emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal in maintaining a clean and healthy environment, and pledged the Assembly's commitment to working with stakeholders to ensure effective waste management in the city and reiterated that the assembly will put the dustbins to use at areas where it's most needed.
Pastor Emmanuel Hammond having donated the dustbins on behalf of his superior, charged that "Cape Coasters and the Assembly to maintain the quality of these dustbins for it to serve its purpose for the Assembly."
Mr. Jonas Julibone, the Cape Coast Director of Waste Management, admonished that all well-wishers to emulate the gesture of Prophet Aggrey.
The donation is expected to boost the Assembly's sanitation efforts, where cleanliness is a priority.
This responsibility initiative, aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and sustainability. He urged residents to take ownership of their environment and properly dispose of waste in the provided dustbins.
The Assembly has been working to improve waste management in the city, and this donation is seen as a significant step towards achieving that goal.
