The Ashanti Region has been thrown into mourning following the tragic killing of Mr. Amankwa, father-in-law of Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of Gold Board.
The fatal attack occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Tigo Junction. Mr. Amankwa was reportedly returning home from work when unknown gunmen ambushed him and opened fire. After shooting him at close range, the assailants fled the scene in his vehicle, which they forcefully seized.
He was immediately rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where doctors battled tirelessly to save his life. However, after six days of intensive medical care, he sadly succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Mr. Amankwa, believed to be in his early 60s, was widely known in political circles as a committed supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region. Friends, family, and associates described him as a respected and influential personality whose contributions to his community will not be forgotten.
His death has sparked widespread condemnation, with residents expressing outrage over what they described as a brazen and calculated act of violence. The incident has intensified calls for enhanced security presence and urgent measures to address rising criminal activities within the region.

The police have since launched investigations into the attack and are working to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, the grieving community continues to demand swift justice, as the tragic event has sent shock waves across Kumasi and beyond.
