The Berekum Divisional Police Command has arrested a 39-year-old suspected drug dealer, David Frimpong, for unlawful possession of narcotic drugs at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum in the Bono Region.

The arrest was made on February 19, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation at the suspect’s residence, a semi-completed building in the municipality.
According to police, the operation was carried out following information gathered about the suspect’s alleged involvement in the distribution of narcotics in Berekum and surrounding communities.

Police say Frimpong attempted to flee when officers arrived at the premises but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
A search conducted at the residence “uncovered 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 wraps of dried leaves, and three sacks containing dried leaves, all suspected to be Indian hemp,” statement says.

Officers also retrieved “container of groundnut cake toffee believed to have been mixed with Indian hemp, six pairs of scissors, 14 packs of cigarettes, and 190 wrapping papers believed to be used for packaging the substances.”
The items have been seized and retained for evidential and forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is allegedly a key distributor of narcotic drugs within Berekum and its environs.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be put before court to face the full rigours of the law.
