The Acting Commissioner of rent Control Commission, Mr Frederick Opoku, is calling on unlicensed estate agents otherwise known as "agents" across Ghana to regularize their operations by obtaining the required licenses.
He made the appeal while addressing concerns about the growing number of unregistered agents involved in house sales and rental transactions.
Speaking in an interview with Sompa FM in Sunyani, Mr. Opoku said only registered and professional agents are legally entitled to charge a five percent commission when they facilitate property transactions for house owners.
He added that, it was illegal for agents to charge any fee from potential tenants when they facilitate their rent issues.
The Acting Rent Commissioner, Mr Opoku, also urged property owners to prioritize working with registered professional agents to ensure smooth, transparent, and legally protected transactions.
He disclosed that, potential tenants should not be charged "walking fee", saying agents found culpable would be dealt with.
