The Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani East, Vincent Antwi Agyei, says ground preparation works for the dualisation of the SUSEC–Abesim road are expected to begin on Sunday, if no unforeseen circumstances occur.
He confirmed that the letter issued by his office on Thursday, March 5, 2026 was to notify residents and traders along the project corridor about the impending start of the project.
Speaking in an interview with Ama Konadu on ‘Adea Akye Abia’ morning show at Sompa Fm-Sunyani, Hon. Antwi Agyei said the notice was also to inform the public that many of the shop owners and container operators occupying portions of the project site have complied with earlier directives to evacuate the area.
“We have seen that some of the people whose shops and containers were on the site have complied and evacuated from there. But for those who have not yet done so, we expect that by the end of Saturday they will be able to evacuate,” he added.
Mr. Antwi Agyei also revealed that together with the officials from the Ghana Highway, Ghana Water Limited, and Northern Electricity Distribution Company visited the project site on Wednesday to conduct an inspection.
“Yesterday we went to the place together with the highway authorities, Ghana Water and VRA/NEDCO to inspect so they can assist the contractor to avoid damaging any pipelines and wires and also prevent any external damage to residents,” he explained.
The Sunyani East MCE assured residents that the collaboration with the various utility service providers is intended to ensure the road project progresses smoothly while protecting public infrastructure and nearby properties.
