Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Professor Richard Kwesi Amankwa, has urged students to pursue academic excellence grounded in discipline, integrity, and resilience.
He delivered this message during the Fifth Edition of the “Start Right, End Well” Mentorship Programme, held at the UMaT Auditorium.
Addressing members of the University Council, Management, Faculty, mentors, and students, Professor Amankwa emphasized that UMaT’s mission extends beyond academic training.
According to him, the University is committed to producing graduates who are not only technically competent but also ethically grounded and socially responsible.
He explained that the programme’s theme, “Start Right, End Well,” highlights the importance of beginning one’s academic journey with clear purpose while maintaining consistency and determination throughout.
“Starting right requires focus, discipline, and respect for the values of this institution. Ending well demands perseverance, resilience, and a commitment to excellence,” he stated.
Professor Amankwa commended the organisers for sustaining the initiative over the years, describing the fifth edition as evidence of UMaT’s ongoing dedication to holistic student development.
He also expressed appreciation to the mentors for their dedication to guiding and inspiring the next generation of leaders in mining, engineering, and technology.
The “Start Right, End Well” mentorship programme is designed to equip students with practical guidance, leadership skills, and personal development strategies to help them navigate their academic journey successfully.
The event concluded with the Vice Chancellor officially declaring the fifth edition of the programme open, urging students to remain focused and determined to graduate with distinction and integrity.
