Mr Kwabena Kyei Baffour, the Assembly member for Potrikrom Electoral Area in the Ahafo Ano South East District of the Ashanti Region has called for government intervention to control the rising incidents of road crashes on the Bechem-Kumasi highway.
His appeal followed a latest road crash which happened at Potrikrom, near Adugyama, and claimed 16 lives, on Tuesday March 3, 2026 involving an ambulance vehicle Ford Transit bus.
Speaking to Sompa FM in an interview, Mr Baffour said road crashes on the highway were common at the Potrikrom, Nimfourkrom and Fawoma communities along the stretch.
He expressed concern about speeding among drivers due to the lack of speed rams in those crash-prone communities, and advised drivers to reduce speed when they reached communities along the highway.
Mr Baffour said Tuesday's crash was unfortunate and expressed condolences to the bereaved families, calling on the Ghana Highway Authority to do something immediately to bring the needless crashes under control and save precious lives and properties.
