Paramount Chief of the Abrem Traditional Area of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality in the Central Region, Nana Kyiriwia Kodie V, has strongly condemned the poor state of infrastructure of Berase A.M.E. Zion Basic School, describing it as unacceptable that pupils are forced to study in classrooms often invaded by goats and sheep.
The chief in view of this has therefore called on the government and the Ghana Education Service (GES) to urgently intervene and address the deteriorating learning condition confronting students and teachers at the school.

According to Nana Kyiriwia Kodie V, the absence of adequate fencing and the poor condition of structures at the school have made the premises easily accessible to roaming animals within the community. As a result, goats and sheep frequently stray into classrooms and school compounds, disrupting teaching and learning.
He made this assertion at the enstoolment of Nana Yaw Anomako lll and Nana Ekua Apea ll, as the Gyaasehene and Gyaasehemaa respectively of the Abrem Traditional Area at the Abrem Berase community centre on Saturday, March 7, 2026.
He noted that such conditions undermine the dignity of education and pose potential health and safety risks to pupils.

“Education must take place in a safe and dignified environment as witnessed students in Accra, Kumasi and other cities to be enjoying. It is demeaning for pupils of Berase A.M.E. Zion Basic School to sit in classrooms where goats and sheep move about haphazardly,” the chief shared his frustration.
The traditional leader further stressed that the situation requires urgent government attention, calling for the rehabilitation of the school building, fencing of the premises and provision of adequate facilities to ensure a conducive learning atmosphere.

Nana Kyiriwia Kodie again urged authorities to treat the issue with urgency, stressing that no child should have to endure such condition in pursuit of education.
Nana Yaw Anomako lll, the newly enstooled Gyaasehene of the Abrem Traditional Area upon his installation, implored youths of Berase and its environs never to overlook farming in their want for a better life.
Having had his address touched on areas like education, health, unity, and sanitation, he urged youths of Berase and its neighboring communities to place much emphasis on the need to venture into farming amid their unflinching quest for white colour jobs, as farming also possesses equal potency and even more than what the labelled white colour jobs can offer.
