The Ghana Police Service has intensified efforts to restore calm in the Oti Region, as the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Acquah, engaged residents of Nkwanta to promote peace and security following recent violent incidents.
According to a statement issued from the Regional Headquarters in Dambai on March 27, 2026, DCOP Acquah visited Nkwanta on March 26 alongside senior officers to interact with police personnel and encourage vigilance, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Regional Commander subsequently led a joint security delegation comprising personnel from the Police, Military, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), and Defence Intelligence to the Zongo community.
There, they met with the Zongo Chief, Alhaji Issaka Kayaba, and community elders.
During the visit, DCOP Acquah conveyed condolences on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Management Board to the community following the death of three adult males in recent violent attacks in the Nkwanta South Municipality.
The Zongo Chief assured the delegation of the community’s commitment to peace, non-retaliation, and coexistence, emphasizing the need for unity during this period.
As part of the visit, the Commander also inspected the site of a previous arson incident at Dadaga, where two lives were lost, to assess the situation on the ground.
The Police Command reiterated its commitment to monitoring developments closely and urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies.
It also cautioned against the spread of misinformation and called for restraint to prevent further escalation.
The statement was signed by John Nchor, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Affairs Officer for the Oti Region.
