The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that two suspected armed robbers were shot dead following a robbery incident at Tema in the Greater Accra Region.
According to a statement issued by the Tema Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. at Community 5.
The suspects reportedly attacked a mobile money vendor at a shop located at the Ashaiman Fosuah Plaza.
Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the robbers, posing as a passenger on a motorbike, approached the vendor under the pretext of making a withdrawal.
However, when the victim brought out her phone to process the transaction, the suspect brandished a pistol and demanded that she hand over cash from her bag.
A struggle ensued when the motorbike rider joined the confrontation, during which the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. The suspects subsequently fled the scene on the motorbike.
Police officers from the Tema Regional Operations Unit, who were on patrol nearby, responded swiftly to a distress call and pursued the suspects.
Upon reaching a junction near the Smart Hotel at Community 6, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the police.
The officers returned fire, fatally wounding both suspects, who fell off the motorbike.
The police recovered a black 9mm Luger pistol loaded with three rounds of ammunition and one round in the chamber.
Other items retrieved include three Android mobile phones, a Ghana Card, assorted SIM cards, a talisman, a Royal motorbike key, and an amount of GH¢11,390. One spent cartridge was also found at the robbery scene.
The bodies of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
Meanwhile, the injured victim is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Tema Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to ensuring safety and security and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
