A suspected armed robber and murder suspect, Amadu Mammaa, has died after sustaining gunshot wounds during a police intelligence-led operation at Cherimbo in the Prang District of the Bono East Region.
The operation, carried out on Monday, April 13, 2026, was jointly undertaken by the Bono East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate with support from the National Police Intelligence Directorate to arrest the suspect, who had been on the police wanted list for a series of armed robbery attacks and a murder case.
According to police accounts, the suspect reportedly opened fire on the operational team during an attempt to arrest him, resulting in a brief exchange of gunfire.
A police statement said: “The suspect engaged the team upon approach, leading to an exchange of fire in which he sustained gunshot wounds.”
He was subsequently rushed to the Holy Family Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by medical officials.
Medical personnel at the facility confirmed the development, noting: “The individual was brought in with severe gunshot injuries and was declared dead shortly after arrival.”
A search conducted on the deceased uncovered a foreign-made pistol loaded with four rounds of 7.65mm ammunition, a cutlass, and three talismans believed to have been in his possession.
Investigations have linked Amadu Mammaa to the killing of Hawa Yakubu on March 9, 2026, at Jerusalem near Mpaha in the Savannah Region, as well as a robbery attack on two victims at Bompa near Ejura in the Ashanti Region on February 23, 2026.
Police further indicated that the body has been deposited at the morgue of the Holy Family Hospital for preservation while investigations continue into possible accomplices and related criminal activities.
