Mrs Charity Gardiner, the Ahafo Regional Minister has urged families to allow their children writing the on-going 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to concentrate on the books, instead of burdening them with household chores.
She said the candidates required enough time to revise their notes to be able to write and pass the BECE and asked the families to also monitor and control the night movements of the candidates.
Mrs Gardiner gave the advice in an interview with the media after she visited some examination centers in the region, and advised candidates to also remain studious and be confident in writing the exams.
She emphasised BECE remained critical in determining the academic success of the candidates urging families to lessen household chores on the candidates, saying that could negatively affect their preparations and performance.
Mrs Gardiner’s visit took her to the OLA Girls Senior High School (SHS) examination center at Kenyasi, Kodiwohia Basic School examination center, Hwidiem SHS examination center where she interacted and motivated the candidates to give up their best.
In another interview, Mr Abraham Fletcher, the Ahafo Regional Director of Education who accompanied the Regional Minister told the media that 12,479 candidates were writing the BECE across the six politically administrative Districts and Municipalities in the region.
He said they comprised 6,347 males and 6,132 females, and urged the candidates to do independent work, saying that strict measures had been put in place to stem examination malpractices.
