Residents and commercial drivers using the Sunyani–Acherensua road have commended Alexiboam Construction Company Limited for the rapid progress of work on the stretch, barely five months after the contract was awarded.
Some drivers who ply the road said they are impressed with the level of construction work undertaken by the company, particularly the construction of several culverts and bridges along the stretch.
According to them, the drainage structures will improve the durability of the road and help minimise flooding during the rainy season.
“We are happy with the speed of work. The culverts and bridges being constructed will help protect the road from flooding, and we believe the project will make travelling safer and easier,” one of the drivers stated.
The drivers further appealed to government to continue awarding road contracts to Ghanaian construction firms, arguing that local contractors have proven capable of delivering quality projects.
Residents in communities along the road also praised the contractor for the progress achieved within a short period.
They noted that the previous poor condition of the road exposed commuters and residents to transportation difficulties and frequent armed robbery attacks.
“For years, this road created serious challenges for us, especially at night when robbery attacks were common. We believe the completion of this project will improve security and transportation,” a resident said.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the project site, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, said government remains committed to ensuring that road projects awarded on contract are completed to improve transportation infrastructure and support economic growth.
He therefore, expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being carried out on the project.
“We are satisfied with the progress of work so far. Government remains committed to ensuring that road projects are completed on schedule to enhance economic activities and improve the lives of the people,” the Minister stated.
Meanwhile, the Road Engineer for Alexiboam Construction Company Limited, Mr. Ridgory Kyeremeh, disclosed that the company has already laid the road base and remains committed to delivering quality work despite the public commendation.
“We appreciate the commendation from residents and road users, but our focus remains on delivering a quality and durable road project,” he said.
He also advised motorists using the stretch to exercise caution and avoid over-speeding, as construction work is still ongoing.
