Mr. Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon popularly know as "Wode Maya", a YouTuber and content creator has urged Ghanaian students to take personal initiative in creating opportunities rather than waiting solely on government for employment.
Addressing students at the entrepreneurship summit organized by the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) dubbed, "A Tool for Students Transition in Career Sustainability."
Wode Maya established that the job market is evolving so fast and entreated youths to equip themselves with practical skills, entrepreneurship, and a mindset of self-reliance.
“Don’t wait for the government for jobs,do something, start now.The opportunities are there if you look beyond the traditional path and use your skills, your phone, and the internet.”he told the audience.
Wode Maya shared his own journey of building a global platform from scratch, stressing that consistency, discipline, and learning outside the classroom were key to his success. He encouraged students to explore digital skills and trades that can generate income while still in school.
At the summit was Joan Selasie Ahiawordor Esq., the Deputy CEO of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme advised the students to combine their academics, entrepreneurship skills and the government support programs such as the student entrepreneurship and enterprise development which aims at eradicating the unemployment burden on the government.
Mr. De-Graft Osei, the 63rd UCC SRC Treasurer expressed his profound confidence in the government as responsive to the demands of the youth of Ghana.
He said the engagement will be propagated to schools in the country to empower the students to own their enterprises both in school and after graduation.
The session ended with a call for youth to take ownership of their future and contribute to solving Ghana’s unemployment challenge
