Construction work on the long-awaited Aboahia Kyerase Health Center in the Suame Municipality, Ashanti Region, has finally resumed after a 6-month standstill caused by a legal dispute between the Municipal Assembly and the owner of Comforter School.
The project, which is expected to serve multiple communities in Suame and adjoining areas, was halted when disagreements over land and access routes ended up in court. The delay left residents without access to quality healthcare and forced many to travel long distances for treatment.
To resolve the impasse, the court ordered both the Suame Municipal Assembly and the school authorities to “smoke the peace pipe” and settle their differences amicably so the contractor could return to site.
This morning, both parties met and agreed in peace pact, ending months of tension. Immediately after the discussion, Suame Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Frank Owusu Ansah, announced that the contractor has been instructed to mobilize equipment and workers back to the site.
“The health center is a critical project for our people. Once completed, it will decongest the Suame Polyclinic and bring maternal care, child welfare services, and emergency treatment closer to communities like Aboahia, Kyerase, and nearby suburbs,” Hon. Owusu Ansah disclosed.
He added that the contractor has committed to completing the facility within 6 months and will run a double-shift system to make up for lost time. “We don’t want the contractor to run out of town again. The Assembly will monitor progress weekly to ensure the deadline is met,” he warned.
Assembly Member for Kyerase Electoral Area, Hon. Elvis Nyantakyi, aka Yesmadam, described the resumption as a huge relief for his constituents. “For years my people have been walking long distances to access healthcare. This center will bring dignity and save lives, especially for pregnant women and children,” he said.
Hon. Nyantakyi also expressed profound gratitude to the MCE for his mediation, the owner of Comforter School for showing goodwill, and the Chief of the area for his leadership.
“This peace pact shows that when we put the community first, development follows,” he noted.
