The minister of education Hon Osei Yaw Adutwum has appealed to the four teacher unions that are currently sitting on strike to return to the classroom, while negotiations go on.
According to the minister, he sympathises with the conditions of teachers in the country but would urge them to consider the current state of the economy, and return to the classroom for the needs of the parents and students.
He added that indeed teachers are suffering, “I have been in the classroom, I know what we go through and I perfectly understands the situation, but I liase between the government and my colleague teachers, I will plead with them to reconsider their decision because its affecting stakeholders including the parents, the children and the government, he told sompa news.
Four teacher unions, NAGRAT, GNAT, CCT and TEWU have declared an indefinite strike since Monday, and negotiations with the government ended inconclusively.
But the education minister believes there was hope in dialogue to ensure teachers return to classrooms as soon as possible.
