The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme,( rCOMSDEP), National Coordinator Ms Ama Mawusi Mawunyefia has stated a mission that encompasses a broader vision extending well beyond the traditional parameters of classroom based education and training.
This visionary program is placing a new and significant emphasis on critical aspects such as job retention, income growth, and financial inclusion, all aimed at ensuring that artisanal miners remain productive, engaged, and thriving long after they have graduated from the training initiatives.
The National Coordinator, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia also pledge to support women and the youth during stakeholders, where she emphasized the program's design is rooted in achieving long-term, sustained impact within the communities it serves.
She mentioned their goal which is to train participants,” Ms Mawusi remarked passionately. She further elaborated, stating, “Instead, we are committed to fostering employment retention, enhancing income improvements, and facilitating formative growth that is both substantial and long-lasting." Mawusi underscored the importance of a comprehensive support system that will provide essential guidance aimed at refining implementation strategies, bolstering policy decisions, and firmly ensuring that no beneficiary is excluded or left behind in the wake of their training.
She therefore highlighted the importance of collaboration, revealing that rCOMSDEP is actively aligning its efforts with various sister agencies, including prominent organizations like the National Association of Small Scale Miners (NASM) and influential players in the financial sector, such as GCB Bank and Consolidated Bank Ghana.
She pointed out that this strategic collaboration is already yielding promising results, as it is creating what she refers to as a "tiny six units of continuous trade and institutional metric financial inclusion."
This initiative is particularly geared towards empowering beneficiaries by facilitating their access to critical resources such as credit, markets, and essential formal structures that are key to their economic advancement.
Moreover, the National Coordinator made it abundantly clear that as central to rCOMSDEP’s mission, policy guidance and ongoing implementation reviews will play a pivotal role.
She stressed the necessity for the lessons learned from field experiences to directly inform and enhance stronger, more effective government decisions. Emphasizing her commitment, she reiterated, “We will provide guidance to refine implementation strategies, strengthen policy decisions, and ensure that no beneficiary is left behind after the training.”
In closing her address, she took a moment to commend the dedicated rCOMSDEP team and its invaluable partners, asserting that the true measure of the program’s success will not simply lie in the number of certificates issued, but rather in tangible outcomes, such as the jobs retained, the incomes raised for the miners, and their successful formal integration into Ghana's vibrant economy, which reflects the essence of sustainable development.
