Ahafo Forestry Commission calls for stringent measures to combat illegal logging, lumbering

The Forestry Commission (FC) in the Ahafo Region is calling for decisive measures to combat the growing illegal logging and lumbering in the region.

According to the Reverend Edward Antwi, the Ahafo Regional Manager of the FC, illegal logging and lumbering were threatening the region's forest reserves and natural resources.

In an interview with the media at Goaso, the Ahafo Regional capital, on the

sidelines of the 2026 'Tree for Life" programme, he called for stakeholder support and cooperation to protect the forest reserves in the area from exploitation.

Mr Emmanuel Anim, the Goaso District Forestry Manager expressed worry about recurring assaults of personnel of the commission by illegal chainsaw operators.

Mr Ebenezer Tetteh Addo, the Ahafo Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Timbers Association, also called on government to intensify the enforcement of forestry regulations and also adequately resource the FC
