Former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo, has hit back at New Patriotic Party stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko over his criticism of her decision to picket at the Ministry of Finance.
Mr. Otchere-Darko on Sunday criticized Sophia Akuffo for joining pensioner bondholders to picket to demand the total exclusion of their funds from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
Reacting to the issue on Sompa Tv/Fm morning show, the minister in charge of the government business, Honorable Kyei Mensah Bonsu said, he fully supports the decision by the former Chief Justice to franchise her constitutional rights when she thinks things are not done right.
According to the member of the parliament for the Suame constituency, in as much as he agrees with the former Chief Justice, the individual bondholders and Pensioners bondholders should consider the economic challenges the country is going through.
He said he has advised the government to call for a discussion between the bondholders when some individual bondholders petitioned him and the minority when parliament was in recess because nothing can substitute dialogue.
“I still maintained that nothing can substitute for dialogue, the finance minister should meet with the bondholders and explain things to them,” he said.
He said the country was on the right track in managing its economy until Ukraine and Russia war and Covid 19, and that is why the government resorted to IMF.
He said parliament has invited the minister of finance and believes his meeting with the parliamentarians will cushion the minister and put him on track.
“When he comes to parliament, we will give comments and these comments will help him make the right decision” he added.
Reacting to the Majority caucus decision for the president to sack the finance minister” he said discussions are still ongoing and the outcome will determine the decision will arrive at.
