Former president, John Dramani Mahama has emphasized that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Assin North by-election, James Gyakye Quayson will never be prosecuted as noted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in a campaign at Assin Breku on Sunday, June 25, 2023, the elected NDC flagbearer opined that the only person to be jailed on criminal grounds is the ruling president and his corrupt gove
rnment appointees.
According to him, he will personally see to it that those enlisted appointees are jailed after his triumph in the 2024 general election which he's optimistic of winning.
John Mahama made this statement in reply to president, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo's earlier remarks to constituents of Assin North in the NPP's victory rally held on Sunday.
He then urged the people of Assin North to disregard the claim that James Quayson's supreme court ruling on dual citizenship has some similarities with that of Adamu Daramani Sakande, the late Member of Parliament for Bawku Central who got jailed on similar grounds.
The NDC flagbearer recounted that on the basis of the former Bawku Central MP, he possessed nationality affiliation with three different countries which he felt reluctant in denouncing while contesting for his parliamentary seat.
The Assin North by-election which seizes to bring the country to a standstill is slated for Tuesday, June 27, 2023 where 41,168 delegates from 99 polling stations are expected to vote.
