General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey has said that for Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghana and the flagbearer for ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to roam the entire country to canvas for vote to become the next president of the state, signifies that shame has totally vanish from the nation.
According to him, for the Vice President not to realize he is at the centre of the destruction of the country's economical woes, but rather tour all over the country to make all kinds of promises, tells that shame has gone out of Ghana.
He said this at the 45th anniversary of the June 4 uprising commemoration held at Ajuamako Denkyira in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam Constituency in the Central Region, themed, " Unity, Loyalty and Vigilance for Victory 2024."
The June 4 Revolution or June 4 Uprising was an uprising in Ghana in 1979 that arose out of a combination of corruption, bad government, frustration among the general public, luck of discipline, and frustration within the Ghanaian Army.
It was sparked when the then military government of the Supreme Military Council (SMC ll) Lieutenant General Fred Akuffo, put then flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings on public trial on attempting to overthrow the government on May 15, 1979. This happened because Rawlings was a junior soldier in the Ghanaian Army who with other soldiers were refused to be given their salaries.
Rawlings then turned the trial against the government, accusing it of massive corruption and requesting that his fellow accused be set free, as he was solely responsible for the munity.
June 4 has since become a noted date in Ghana and marked annually by the NDC, especially those who believe in the uprising movement
Chairman for the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nkatiah on the ongoing ambulance case against Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam, called on chiefs of the Central Region and its people to rally support behind the minority leader, since he is clean of all the charges levelled against him.
Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang at the event, pleaded on all well-meaning Ghanaians who following the disappointment by the current government have decided not to vote in the upcoming 2024 general election to come out in their numbers to vote the NPP out of government on December 7 to give power back to the NDC who will never relent on its assurance.
Zaneto Agyaman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle Constituency and daughter of late President Jerry John Rawlings at the celebration, charged all and sundry on the need to protect Ghana's democracy and should never sell their vote come December 7, since their future has no price.
