A dozen of party supporters of the National Democratic Congress in the Central Region have stormed the Bakaano Police Station in Cape Coast with chants in demand for the release of Alhaji Mohammed Kassim, the party's Chairman for Gomoa West District.
The Chairman's detection follows an altercation between party members of the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during commissioning of the District Roads Improvement Projects (DRIP) at the Gomoa West District Assembly on Monday.
This was after members of the NDC requested the removal of pictures of Hon. Bismark Beasie Nkum, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate from the machines been commissioned, which brought about a heated dispute among party members which interrupted the ceremony.
Alhaji Mohammed Kassim's arrest was effected on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at Apam Junction by the Central Regional Police Command upon a carried out investigation.
Abeiku Essien, NDC Central Regional Deputy Youth Organizer in an interview with Sompa TV's Eric Annan revealed that the offence to which the Gomoa West NDC Chairman was arrested since yesterday hasn't been said by the police, following his detention for over 24hours now amid a reported order from above.
Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North Constituency, Hon. Kwamena Minta Nyarku on his account, threw a word of caution to the police to tread with all fairness and the required cautiousness over the issue, else no one should apportion blame to supporters of the NDC should they do things their way.
Supporters of the party clad in red and black attire who opened up to the media, remarked their readiness to sleep at the Bakaano Police Station should their Chairman remain in cells, having condemned the police for arresting an innocent individual on the incident, leaving the culprits to roam the street.
