Renowned Security Expert Mr. Osabutey Abass has questioned the rationale behind decision by some Security and other officers who were involved in the Special voting process engaging in photo-taking of their ballots describing the move as a shame and unprofessional on their call.
Speaking to SOMPA NEWS, Mr. Osabutey Abass said though investigating the culprits would be difficult, their actions has brought the electoral integrity into question
With just 15 minutes left before special voting polls closed, a voter has been picked by the police for attempting to take a photograph of their marked ballot paper. The incident occurred at Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency. This action by the voter has raised concerns about electoral laws and voter conduct. An Immigration officer who showed up to cast his ballot at Ablekuma Central was told someone had mistakenly used his identity to vote. The officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, expressed outrage and has urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to exercise extreme caution to prevent such incidents in the future.
But the astute Security Officer further condemned the foot distribution at the Ayawaso West Wuogon as equally a condemnable act on the part of the Member of Parliament and some of the Officers who shamelessly collected the food item.
He said the whole process was akin to votes buying since the food items could easily influence voters to change their voting pattern.
He has therefore proposed an immediate guidelines by the Electoral Commission of Ghana to release a statement on Thursday before the general elections are held on Saturday so that similar incident would not be repeated on the D- day.
