The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor
(OSP) of being unreasonable in its handling of former Finance Minister Ken
Ofori-Atta's case.
Speaking at a press conference, Lawyer Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the NPP, argued that the OSP's declaration of Ofori-Atta as a fugitive was unjustified.
According to Boakye, Ofori-Atta had been in communication with the OSP regarding his health and had provided a treatment letter from the Mayo Clinic.
Boakye questioned the OSP's authority to declare someone a fugitive, emphasizing that only a court has such power.
He also pointed out that Ofori-Atta had traveled out of the country on January 2, well before the OSP's letter arrived on January 24.
He however argued, suggests that the OSP's suspicions were unfounded. The OSP had previously investigated Ofori-Atta over allegations of attempted bribery, but the case was closed due to lack of evidence.
