Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized Chief Sofo Azorka, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), over his actions during the Akwatia by-election.
The tension arose when Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin made an unannounced visit to the NDC's party office, sparking heated exchanges between NDC supporters and the NPP entourage.
Aboagye condemned the disturbances, blaming the NDC executive for the violence.
He expressed concern over the disregard for police authority, recounting an incident where someone threw a punch over a policeman's head to hit another person.
Aboagye emphasized that such behavior should not be tolerated and urged political leaders to set a good example.
Aboagye specifically criticized Chief Azorka, stating that he should be ashamed of his actions and attitude.
"But the biggest shame of yesterday goes to Sofo Azorka. Wherever he is this morning, he should bow his head in shame.
He should be ashamed of himself, his attitude, and the character he has built for himself," Aboagye said. He stressed that violence has no place in Ghana's democracy and elections .
The Akwatia by-election was marked by tensions, with the NDC accusing the NPP of attempting to intimidate their supporters. The police intervened, arresting one person for allegedly inciting violence.
Despite the incident, the Inspector General of Police assured the public that security arrangements were adequate, and the election was conducted without major disruptions.
