The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has denounced a violent attack on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) during an official operation at Bronikrom near Hwediem in the Ahafo Region, describing the incident as a grave affront to national efforts to combat illegal mining.
In a statement issued on Monday, the sector Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, expressed deep concern over the assault, which occurred on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
He assured the public that government will ensure swift and thorough investigations to bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to the statement, the Minister has already engaged the Speaker of Parliament and the Minister for the Interior to coordinate urgent measures aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the attack and ensuring accountability.
“This is in line with government’s commitment to bring to book all perpetrators who aid, support, or front the continuous decimation of the environment,” the release stated.
The Ministry reaffirmed its determination to protect Ghana’s natural resources and maintain the rule of law in the ongoing fight against illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
The statement was signed by Paa Kwesi Schandorf, Media Relations Officer at the Ministry.
